Center Residents File Lawsuit Against N.J. Officials

VINELAND, N.J. -- Seven residents of the Vineland Developmental Center and their families have filed a lawsuit in federal court against Gov. Chris Christie and several other New Jersey officials, claiming the state violated their rights in trying to close the facility last year.
The suit was filed last week by the York Legal Group, based in Harrisburg, Pa., in U.S. District Court in Camden, and seeks an injunction to stop the state from closing the VDC. It comes as the five-member state developmental center task force, formed earlier this year in Trenton, conclude their research and begin the process of deciding which of New Jersey’s seven developmental centers to close. Officials believe a decision will be made some time in July.
