In mid-June, The Arc released a national report, "Still in the Shadows with Their Future Uncertain," which documents a silent crisis developing in our communities our state and across the country.
The Arc surveyed more than 5,000 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), their family members, and caregivers. Here is what they said:
52 percent of families reported that their family member with I/DD left school without receiving a high school diploma — 10 percent never finished high school.
85 percent of families reported that their adult family members with I/DD were not employed, either part-time or full-time.
Nearly half (46 percent) of parents/caregivers report that they have more caregiving responsibilities than they can handle.
