Best States for Disability Services Ranked

An annual ranking of states offering the best services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities reveals a familiar but evolving landscape.The analysis of disability services in all 50 states and the District of Columbia being released Thursday by United Cerebral Palsy finds top performers spanning the map. In previous years, the best services were largely clustered in the Northeast and West.Arizona claimed the number one slot in the ranking for the third year in a row. Also rounding out the 10 best on this year’s list are Michigan, Hawaii, Georgia, New York, South Carolina, Maine, Massachusetts, Ohio and Missouri.

Arizona Tops in Delivering Medicaid Services

Arizona was ranked No. 1 in the nation for its delivery of Medicaid services to developmentally disabled residents, the fourth time in six years the state has come out on top, according to a new report.

“Individuals who need services in Arizona are receiving them,” said Tarren Bragdon, author of the United Cerebral Palsy report. “There are very few people on the waiting lists and individuals are getting services just in time.”
The report goes up to 2010, the most recent year for which numbers are available. Subsequent budget cuts could affect the state’s standing in future reports.
